You may feel anxious or unsure about a family photoshoot, but I understand. Not knowing what it will look like, how to prepare and how your kids will react can be nerve-wracking.
Photographing a family session can sometimes have its challenges and every photographer may have a different approach to their family photoshoot sessions.
Before my family photography sessions, I go over a list of shoot ideas and envision them, but I’ve learnt that things don’t always go as planned. I have experienced a busy toddler who doesn’t want to cuddle or play games, then all plans go out of the window.
Over time I have found ways that work for me in every session to get emotive and candid images and how to help families feel relaxed and their best selves.
So, what do my family photoshoots look like? Keep on reading!
The process of my family photoshoots
We will decide on an appropriate location
I offer style advice and a wardrobe
I will get to know you
I like to get to know my clients before the session, I know for a fact that the more comfortable we are around each other, the more relaxed the photoshoot will become. I like to work with my client’s personalities as I know how every love shines through differently.
As soon as we have found that connection, I will work with you to find a middle ground in helping the personalities come through.
We will decide on an appropriate location
Once we have found a location you feel comfortable with we will discuss areas within that will make best for the photos that suit you and your family.
I know some gorgeous spots in Wokingham for your photoshoot, which I let all my clients know of if they need help.
Understand what location would be a dream backdrop for your images. Do you and your kids have a spot that you visit often, therefore your kids may feel more at ease? Or do you prefer to be in a warm and aesthetic studio, that offers a perfect backdrop for your images?
My home studio provides a wonderful backdrop that is homely, warm and authentic.
I offer style advice and a wardrobe
Making sure your images match my aesthetic (which is probably your aesthetic too if you choose me as your family photographer!) is important to beautiful images.
I offer all of my client’s style advice so you know what to wear and the colours that will look best. Knowing what to wear is important and feeling comfortable too, is key.
My wardrobe is evergrowing and includes comfy knits and onesies for newborns and children up to 1year. As well as gorgeous flowy dresses for mums, which are one size fits all!
I use prompts
As soon as these are completed, I have experienced that everyone starts to feel more relaxed and this is where the fun begins.
I use prompts during my family photoshoot sessions, but I have also learnt to wait before I introduce them, this is the best way to keep young children engaged as the magic is not in the actual prompts but in the moments to follow.
Trust your photographer
I am aware that family photoshoots can sometimes feel forced and stress levels can rise especially when you have young children.
You do not need to worry. You can relax as I will reassure you throughout the whole session to help your confidence grow and blossom as this is what I am here to do and it is my passion. I work with families daily and that is why I am so confident in the advice I give!
If you have ever wondered what a family photoshoot looks like, well now you know!
